You may have noticed that Debian CTTE have overruled some of these
changes in the debianutils package in Debian and reverted them in Debian
itself.

tempfile in Ubuntu is on 5.5-1ubuntu1. Debian is now on 5.7-0.1
(through a couple of yet-to-be-acknowledged NMUs).

The changes in Debian so far are below. The reversion of which
deprecation and restoration of tempfile are amongst the changes, but
looking at the source they're done differently to how I did it (I used
quilt patches).

I wondered if I should bring Ubuntu back into sync. But I'm tempted to
leave things as-is until after Jammy is released. We're not far from
feature freeze now, and with Jammy being an LTS it might be an idea to
leave things settled. In effect this would be applying a freeze to
debianutils in Jammy early but maybe this is appropriate for us.

Opinions? Is there anything in these two uploads, or upcoming uploads,
that we really need for Jammy?
