Looking at the ~ubuntu-release autopkgtest branch, which is what our
autopkgtest infrastructure uses, the changes seem to have already been
committed. However, the '-a' option has not been merged upstream:

The Ubuntu QA team plans on finishing the upstream merge request so that
the '-a' option will eventually be a part of the package. In the
meantime we are working to incorporate that change and a change Paride
landed upstream[1] for pulling in packages from -proposed for Lunar in
an update of autopkgtest for Lunar and some stable releases.
That being said the ~ubuntu-release autopkgtest branch also includes
other changes which may not have been upstreamed (yet!) and so are not
necessarily in the Ubuntu package. Therefore, you may want to consider
using the branch instead of the package.

Absolutely and I think the ideal situation would involve a micro release
exception for autopkgtest so that we can have the same version in the
LTS release of Ubuntu and every interim release after that. So this is
something the Ubuntu QA team will work towards.
