I agree, at the same time I also think it's not to be too hesitant on
the switch or the date to pick.
Given that the current channels are almost dead, unless in some specific
moments, so switching away from IRC shouldn't really hurt much.
While it may (even though I've the feeling it's already too late), bring
some more people to be active there.

I think we don't have defined ubuntu development rooms defined yet,
though... Right?

Since libera stopped their official bridging, I'm still wondering if it
would still make sense to have our bridge to join these channels and
redirect the matrix messages and vice-versa.
GNOME did it for the main channels (#gnome-shell and friends...) and
while the official channel is hosted as a matrix chat, IRC users can
still communicate with no issues...
I don't think these days setting up a such setup is very time consuming.

Not sure, technically they serve different audience and needs, but I'm
not strong about it. It's also true that splitting later is easier than
joining afterwards (if we start with two matrix rooms).
